initially the number of children =7

Average age = 12 years

So using average = $$\frac{sum}{Number of elements} $$

Sum of ages of 7 children = 12 x 7 = 84 years

Now it is given that a child of age 6 years is dead and hence new total age = 84- 6 = 78

Number of persons after the death of 6 year old child = 6

New average = $$\frac {78}{6} $$ = 13
