Starting from his house, Manish moves 25 km towards south-east and then turns to the west and covers another 7 km. How far (in kilometres) is he now from his house?

Solution

Let Manish starts from point A and moved 25 km south east to reach point C, then he turned west and travelled 7 km and finally stopped at point B.

Thus, in $$\triangle$$ ABC,

=> $$(AB)^2=(AC)^2-(BC)^2$$

=> $$(AB)^2=(25)^2-(7)^2$$

=> $$(AB)^2=625-49=576$$

=> $$AB=\sqrt{576}=24$$ km

=> Ans - (C)
