The permanent secretariat of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is located at Tridevi Sadak, G.P.O Box 4222, Kathmandu, Nepal. The secretariat was established on January 17, 1987.
The founding members of SAARC are Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Afghanistan joined in 2007. The SAARC Secretary-General is appointed for a three-year term by a council of Ministers from member states.
The SAARC Development Fund (SDF) Secretariat is based in Thimphu, Bhutan.
