Assuming that the rate of increase in the total population in India during 1991-2001 remains the same as that was during the period 1981-1991, estimate the total population in India in 2001.
Total population in 1981 = 35 + 33 = 68
Total population in 1991 = 44 + 41 = 85
% increase in population = $$\frac{85-68}{68} \times 100$$
= $$\frac{100}{4}=25\%$$
$$\therefore$$ Total population in 2001 = $$85 \times \frac{125}{100}$$
= $$85 \times 1.25 = 106.25$$ crores
