The sum and product of two numbers are 12 and 35 respectively. The sum of their reciprocals will be

Solution

let the 2 numbers be x and y

sum of 2 numbers , x + y = 12

product of 2 numbers, xy = 35

reciprocal of x and y are $$ \frac{1}{x} and \frac{1}{y} $$ respectively

sum of their reciprocals = $$ \frac{1}{x} + \frac{1}{y} $$

= $$ \frac{x + y}{xy} $$

= $$\frac{12}{35} $$
