The pattern followed is that numbers of the form $$(\frac{1}{10})^n$$ are subtracted.

10 - $$0.1$$ = 9.9

9.9 - $$0.01$$ = 9.89

9.89 - $$0.001$$ = 9.889

9.889 - $$0.0001$$ = 9.8889

9.8889 - $$0.00001$$ = 9.88889
