The length of a rectangular plot is increased by 60%. By how much percentage its breadth should be decreased so that total area remains same?
Let length of rectangle = $$10$$ and breadth = $$8$$ units
Area = $$10\times8=80$$ sq. units
Length is increased by 60%, => New length = $$10+(\frac{60}{100}\times10)=16$$ units
For area to remain the same, new breadth = $$\frac{80}{16}=5$$Â units
=> % decrease in breadth = $$\frac{(8-5)}{8}\times100$$
= $$\frac{300}{8}=37.5\%$$
