Question 80

What number should be added to each of the numbers 94, 24, 100 and 26, so that the resulting numbers are in continued proportion?

Let the number added to the numbers 94, 24, 100 and 26 be $$x$$

=> Proportion of the new numbers :

=> $$\frac{94+x}{24+x}=\frac{100+x}{26+x}$$

=> $$(94+x)(26+x)=(100+x)(24+x)$$

=> $$2444+94x+26x+x^2=2400+100x+24x+x^2$$

=> $$120x+2444=124x+2400$$

=> $$124x-120x=2444-2400$$

=> $$4x=44$$

=> $$x=\frac{44}{4}=11$$

=> Ans - (B)
