If the edge of a cube is increased by 10%, then what will be the percentage increase in its volume ?
Let edge of cube initially = $$a=10$$ cm
Volume = $$V=a^3=(10)^3=1000$$ $$cm^3$$
New edge after 10% increase = $$a'=10+(\frac{10}{100}\times10)=11$$ cm
=> New volume = $$V'=(11)^3=1331$$ $$cm^3$$
$$\therefore$$ % increase in volume = $$\frac{(1331-1000)}{1000}\times100$$
= $$\frac{331}{10}=33.1\%$$
