IIMs are the top management institutes of the country. They carry a strong pedigree and a very rich legacy. So much so, that they represent the state of management education in the country. Getting into an IIM is incredibly tough. Your fight is with 3 lakh participants, it does not matter what sort of quota you have, it is almost impossible to get an admission into an IIM with 50%ile in CAT.
IIMs are very tough to get into. For general category, even the newest IIMs do not accept cutoffs lower than 94%ile. If however, the readers want a general idea, they can checkout the cutoffs of baby IIMs over the last few years. Out of all the IIMs, baby IIMs have the lowest cutoffs.
At 80%ile, IIM Ahemdabad is impossible for the General as well as OBC category. So, unless you are a girl from SC and ST background, it would be very difficult to get into IIM A with 80%ile in the CAT exam.
IIM calls are highly dependent upon your past track record and academics. Your composite score includes your grades in 10th, 12th and College exams alongside your College stream and Work Experience(if any) - all of these factors are considered before IIM calls are out. generally students above 95 percentile gets IIM calls.
A 9/9/9 profile in CAT means that you have scored over 90% marks in Grade 10, over 90% marks in Grade 12 and over 90% marks in your graduation.
